The Helping the Refugee (LAR) project was born as a response to the most basic and urgent needs of refugees and asylum seekers on Brazilian soil, especially in the city of São Paulo. Its purpose is to support these people and assist them in their adaptation and insertion in our society, providing a learning environment and coexistence that is more than simply a safe place. Through some initiatives, the LAR project has been committed to being involved as a solution to those who are being affected by conflicts, assisting these immigrants seeking shelter and offering them hope to rebuild their home in this new country. The LAR project is structured in five parts: language, documentation, job, social and health integration, and the sheltering of those in need. The language component, presents refugees the opportunity to partake in an introductory Portuguese course.
