Newly arrived asylum seekers are required to participate in an introductory course at the reception centre. This introductory course provides an introduction to Danish language, culture, and society. The course will describe the Danish labour market, education system and housing in Denmark to equip the asylum seeker to use the programs that provide access to the labour market and to move out of the centers if it later decided that his/her application is to be processed in Denmark. When the initial phase is completed and it has been decided that the asylum seeker's application is to be processed in Denmark, the asylum seeker is required to participate in courses in Danish, English or his/her own native language. The courses may also include subjects, which provide the asylum seeker with skills that will improve his/her integration prospects in Denmark, if residency is granted, and which can at the same time prepare the asylum seeker for life in his/her country of origin if the application for asylum is rejected.
