English as an Additional Language (EAL) at ASRC Footscray and Dandenong offers beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes. The program also conducts weekly preparatory IELTS, advanced grammar and conversation classes, totaling 7958 hours of free EAL learning.
Classes are taught by qualified volunteer teachers while the curriculum includes Australian cultural history, concepts such as ethnic diversity, tolerance, mutual respect, ‘a fair go’, and respect for religious diversity. A further 22 people seeking asylum benefited from 1056 hours of home English tutoring last year. A total of 307 people were empowered to gain the confidence to speak English.
